This ancient monument dates back to the Hellenistic period (3rd century B.C.) and is situated on a hilltop overlooking the town of Rhodes. It is characteristic of Hellenic architecture as it blends well with the environment and has a starkness that coincides with the Hellenic philosophy of austerity.
The Italians undertook to excavate the site during their occupation of the island, but it still has parts that have not been touched. The Hellenic Archeological Society has undertaken to expand the excavation and it will hopefully bring many new features to the surface.
